Good morning everyone, this will be my only post of the day at least until later tonight, as I will be away much of the day. I just wanted to post a few updates to the soccer world.
In last night's MLS action, first of all I lied, no players were away for international duty yet. Blame MLS.com's information as that is where I got it from. In any event Chivas USA scored a pair of first half goals before Nagamura was sent off for a foolish second yellow right before the half. They managed to hold on for the 2-0 win as the Chicago Fire, and in particular Chad Barett, were a nightmare when it came to finishing. Sacha Kljestan opened of the scoring and Justin Braun added the second. Ante Razov received an assist on both goals.
The United States women, following a 1-0 win over Brazil, knocked off Italy 2-0 on a pair of Wambach goals to advance to the finals of the Peace Cup where they will face Canada late tonight/early tomorrow starting at 1 AM EST.
The Manchester United/Real Madrid battle continues as Cristiano Ronaldo admitted it is a dream of his to play for Real Madrid. Manchester United made it clear they are not entertaining offers. Will they eventually give in to his wishes?
The Rhinos play at Paetec Park tonight, where they face the Carolina Railhawks. Can they build on their most recent 3-0 win over the Whitecaps?
Lastly, todays Euro quarterfinal pits Croatia against Turkey. The Turkish team may be riding an emotional high after reaching the quarterfinals against all odds. Or they may plain be tired, today we will see. Remember the Turks will be playing without their starting keeper who was sent off previously. What do I expect? I think the Croatian team has the better players and is playing confidently right now. I like Croatia to win 2-1 (I'll give Turkey a goal in a come from behind bid) and set up a great rematch against Germany in the semis.
