We already know that Spain will not have the services of David Villa when they take the field tomorrow against Germany. What German fans will not like to hear, however, is that Michael Ballack is being called doubtful for the final after sustaining a calf injury that has kept him out of training. What kind of impact should we expect this to have on the game? Well it takes a very skilled player out of the midfield for Germany as they face a skilled Spanish midfield that utilizes 5 midfielders. I would expect the possession balance to be tilted towards Spain if Ballack cannot go. Additionally it will force lineup adjustments including possibly sliding Bastian Schweinstieger into Ballack's spot, which takes away his freedom on the sidelines. This is really a nightmare for Germany who will have to be considered the underdogs for sure now. I'll have my Germany jersey on and I'll be pulling for them, but unless they can defend comfortably and score against the run of play it might be a disappointing final for the Deutschland. Be prepared in case when you see Ballack tomorrow he is dressed as shown above and not in uniform.
