UEFA Final This Afternoon

If you work anywhere other than a school, start working up a cough to leave work early today. The UEFA cup final will be televised live on FSC today starting at 2:30 EST (2:45 kickoff). It makes for a more interesting UEFA final than is often the case, as with Rangers of Scotland and Zenit St Petersburg of Russia, we have two sides where winning the UEFA cup would mean a great deal to them as opposed to world soccer super powers that take it only as a consolation prize. Both teams have had impressive runs to reach the final, but with very different approaches. Rangers have rarely found the back of the net, but have allowed even fewer goals, relying on tight defending and strong goalkeeping, advancing often on the away goal rule and triumphing over Fiorentina in the semis on penalties after a pair of scoreless draws. Zenit on the other hand has shown a powerful offense, most recently shocking European giant Bayern Munich in the semis by a score of 5-1 aggregate (4-0 at home). The final will be played on neutral ground in Manchester, England, and Zenit is listed as the favorites, but will be without their leading goalscorer due to suspension. Who do you think will win, the defensive minded Rangers squad or the high flying team from Russia?

In other news, Manchester United wrapped up the EPL title with their win over the weekend and now all eyes will be on the Manchester United vs Chelsea Champion's League final. With the final week approaching in Spain's La Liga, Real Madrid has sealed the title while Villareal has locked up 2nd. The real point of interest this weekend will be the battle for 3rd and 4th, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid sitting on 64 points a piece. In Italy one last week also remains, and Inter Milan sits 1 point ahead of Roma in the fight for the Scudetto. Here in Rochester, we will be turning our attention back to the Rhinos tonight as they face their final road test before returning home for this weekend's home opener. They face the Sounders at 10:00 PM and I will attempt to do a running commentary if anyone will be following along.

Comment on the UEFA final or give your thoughts on the Rhinos.
